Sawed-off semi-automatic rifle found during traffic stop
MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat police say weapons and other items found in a vehicle are prime examples of the dangers police face even during a routine traffic stop.
According to police, an officer found a loaded, sawed-off .22 semi-automatic rifle, as well as a bag containing a mask, kerchief, and a spring-loaded police-style baton during a vehicle search.
Police say an officer stopped a car on March 19 that did not have functioning brake lights. While rolling to a stop the officer saw the occupants appearing to hide something under the seat of the car.
The officer discovered the driver was breaching a condition of his release on a previous charge and he was arrested. The items were found during a subsequent search of the vehicle.
