MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers were dealt yet another difficult blow on Tuesday, as their captain’s WHL career has likely come to an end.

The Tigers confirmed captain Daniel Baker suffered an upper-body injury in Saturday’s 9-2 loss at the hands of the Lethbridge Hurricanes and is expected to be out for the remainder of the season.

Baker, a 20-year-old overager with the Tigers, has played his entire career in black and orange stripes with 20 goals and 89 points put up over 213 career regular season games.

The Edmonton product was named the club’s 38th captain in franchise history on December 4, 2021 and played every game in his final season with Medicine Hat before his most recent injury.

One of the most consistent producing Tigers this year, Baker recorded five goals and 25 points and currently sits second in team scoring.

Baker’s injury is just one of many for the struggling Tigers, who are already without forwards Tyler MacKenzie, Noah Danielson and Brendan Lee, while goalie Beckett Langkow and blueliner Gleb Ivanov have also missed time recently.

As a result, the Tigers called up prospects Shane Smith and Josh Van Mulligen from the South Alberta Hockey Academy.

Riding a 10-game losing streak, Medicine Hat plays host to the Red Deer Rebels on Tuesday night with puck drop set for 7:00 pm at Co-Op Place.
