Canada announces $100 million humanitarian assistance to Ukraine

OTTAWA, ON — Global Affairs Canada announced Tuesday that the Canadian government will provide $100 million in humanitarian assistance to help address the most urgent needs in Ukraine.

“The lives of the children of Ukraine have been thrown into chaos,” says Canada’s Minister of International Development and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada, Harjit Sajjan. “Their classrooms have been replaced by bomb shelters. Their playgrounds have become battlefields. Their beds have become the hard ground. As Canadians, we have stepped up and will continue to do so.”

The government says the additional support will help provide emergency health services, such as trauma care, protection, support for displaced populations, and essential life-saving services such as food, water, shelter, and sanitation services.

Sajjan says, “We will continue to be there for our Ukrainian friends and partners during this difficult time.”

The Canadian government says it will continue to work with partners, including the United Nations and non-governmental agencies to assist those affected by the conflict.
