Premier promises historic health-care spending in budget

Feb 23, 2022 | 3:59 PM

EDMONTON – Alberta Premier Jason Kenney says tomorrow’s provincial budget will see a historic blitz of health-care spending powered by a roaring, re-energized economy.

Kenney says the COVID-19 pandemic has spotlighted the need for Alberta to get a better return on its health-care investment with more beds, staff and facilities.

He has already announced a plan to have more surgeries done by private facilities and paid for by public health.

Kenney says that is possible because of a strong economy that’s firing on all cylinders from oil and gas to high-tech.

The Opposition NDP says while the bottom line is bountiful, ordinary families are not sharing the wealth.

NDP Leader Rachel Notley says families are feeling the pinch even more due to rising inflation, food prices and policy changes by Kenney’s government that have led to higher fees and power bills.

Kenney has promised the budget will include rebates for those facing high natural gas costs.
