Tigers expect fan surge following restrictions program cancellation

Feb 18, 2022 | 4:08 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Tigers say they expect to see a larger showing of fans for this weekend’s game following the lifting of the Restrictions Exemption Program in Alberta.

Last Saturday’s tilt against the Edmonton Oil Kings was their first home match since Premier Jason Kenney cancelled the REP on Feb.9.

The Tigers say just over 2,000 fans came out for the contest, which was about 300 more than most other recent games.

And although there was a drop in fans at last Wednesday’s faceoff with the Brandon Wheat Kings, the Tigers say Saturday night’s game against the Lethbridge Hurricanes will likely see a return to larger numbers.

“It’s a huge game. Logan Barlage playing his old team. Corson Hopwo playing his old team.. always that huge rivalry between Medicine Hat and Lethbridge,” said Adam Jones, the Tigers’ media services manager. “We expect to see quite a few more fans up from Lethbridge and we’re also hoping to get a few more fans from around town as well.”

Game time against the Hurricanes is 7 p.m. Saturday at Co-op Place.
