Alberta investing millions for employment support

Feb 8, 2022 | 2:15 PM

The Government of Alberta is investing $6.5 million to provide career and employment services to underserved Albertans.

Forty-one grants were awarded as part of Alberta’s Recovery Plan to help underemployed people get back to work and on their feet after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jason Luan, minister of community and social services says, “As part of Alberta’s Recovery Plan, this funding increases employment services across the province to help Albertans build their skills and start planning and building for the future.”

Karen Ramchuck, president and CEO of Women in Need Society says the grants have helped it launch Warehouse Ready, a program to help people prepare for work in the warehouse sector, teaching skills such as first aid training, forklift operation and WHMIS.

The organizations receiving the grants offer support for a wide variety of people including women with barriers to employment, youth with disabilities, and unemployed oil and gas workers transitioning to new industries.

Grants have been given to different organizations around Alberta including Lethbridge, Medicine Hat and Brooks.
