Letters for Seniors hopes to brighten spirits

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Hatters came to the Interpretive Centre on Sunday to help make a senior’s day.

Cards, markers, and scrapbooking supplies were laid out on tables for people to write a letter for a senior living in a facility to show them that someone cares.

Grace Porter, park interpreter, says the initiative is aimed at combating isolation that they may be facing during COVID-19.

“With COVID-19 and how isolated and more vulnerable people have to be, we kind of tend to forget about them, since they are not in the forefront of our day-to-day. So this way we can kind of reach out to them in a safe way,” she said.

The Interpretive Centre partnered with the Kiwanis Club for the initiative.

The cards will be delivered to residents at the Cypress View Foundation.

Anyone who did not make a card can still do so by visiting the Interpretive Centre at Police Point Park. The Interpretive Centre aims to deliver the cards by the end of the month.
