Early deficit proves costly for Tigers in final meeting with Moose Jaw

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A rocky start cost the Medicine Hat Tigers dearly in their lone game of the weekend, dropping a 5-2 decision to Moose Jaw in their final meeting of the season against the Warriors.

Moose Jaw staked themselves to a 4-0 lead after the opening 16 minutes of Saturday’s contest and despite better second and third periods by the Tigers, the Warriors had enough to earn the win.

Saturday’s loss marked back-to-back defeats for Medicine Hat this week, failing to earn a victory over Moose Jaw in their four meetings this regular season.

Warriors blueliner Majid Kaddoura put the visitors into the lead just 2:07 into the game, letting a wrist shot go from the point that found its way into the net through traffic.

Ryder Korczak added onto that total less than four minutes later, taking a Robert Baco feed and doubling Moose Jaw’s lead with a wrister of his own.

The Warriors’ penchant for cross-ice seam passes was shown off near the midway mark of the first period, as Korczak found Eric Alarie on the left side of the ice for his 13th of the season and a 3-0 lead.

Moose Jaw’s dominance over the opening 20 minutes of play continued with a first career WHL goal for first round pick Marek Howell, letting a shot from the blueline go for the milestone marker to make it 4-0.

Brayden Boehm finally got the Tigers on the board under two minutes into the second frame, skating down left wing and beating Jackson Unger with a shot along the ice.

That was followed up by a goal from the slot by Teague Patton six and a half minutes into the third, making a game of it for the Tigers.

Puck possession on the power play ended up biting Medicine Hat with less than six minutes remaining in regulation, as Korczak fed Jagger Firkus for the one-timer to put the game out of reach.

Langkow made 25 saves in the loss for the Tigers, who still are the lone team in the WHL yet to reach double-digits in wins.

It’s a full week of practice ahead for Medicine Hat with the Edmonton Oil Kings paying the black and orange a visit next Saturday.
