NANTON, AB – A 52-year-old man was killed following a single-vehicle collision Saturday.

At around 9:46 p.m. on January 22, Nanton RCMP, Fire and EMS responded to Highway 533, east of Range Road 265. The driver of the vehicle, a 52-year-old man from Three Hills, was found deceased.

The initial investigation found that the driver was travelling eastbound when he went onto the south shoulder, over corrected, entered the north ditch and rolled.

The RCMP collision analyst attended the scene, and the on-site investigation has been completed. Traffic in the area is no longer impacted.

Mounties noted that in the midst of the tragedy, “a moment of benevolence arose.” They stated that after emergency crews left the area, the RCMP were advised that the deceased man did in fact have a passenger with him – his golden retriever named JD.

A quick investigation found that the dog was uninjured and ran back toward Nanton following the collision. He was located by community members, who took him in and began searching for his family. Thanks to social media postings, the members of the public were able to connect with the RCMP and JD was reunited with his family.

The name of the deceased man has not been released.
