City continuing to work to establish hydrogen hub
MEDICINE HAT, AB- It was a grand scale announcement, made last summer, that aims boost the local economy. Medicine Hat along with Brooks and Southeastern Alberta, are now working towards becoming Canada’s second industrial hydrogen hub, next to Edmonton.
The announcement had the previous Medicine Hat City Council excited for the future.
” The hydrogen hub… It’s a game-changer, I would go so far as to say mark this moment on the city’s historical timeline,” stated Coun. Robert Dumanowski at last August’s council meeting.
But since the announcement was made, a series of petrochemical announcements have been made in Grande Prairie including a $ 2.5 billion plant announced by Northern Petrochemical Corporation. That would produce up to 200 tonnes of blue hydrogen and methanol per year, and bring up to 400 permanent jobs. Speaking to our media partner Global News, Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton said that is part of a number of announcements for the city which has a similar population to Medicine Hat.
