Freight train derails near Saskatchewan village, no injuries reported

CRAVEN, Sask. – Emergency crews are clearing the scene of a train derailment near a small village in Saskatchewan.

Canadian Pacific Railway says in a statement that a freight train carrying potash went off the tracks last night near Craven, which is about 38 kilometres northwest of Regina.

The company says there were no injuries or public safety concerns.

CP says crews and resources were immediately dispatched to clean the site and continue to do so today.

Locals are being asked to avoid the area and traffic is being impacted.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation.

Southern Alberta derailment near Barons

Mounties are on the scene of a train derailment in southern Alberta on Wednesday

RCMP say the Canadian Pacific Rail train had an engine derail at 9:30 a.m. and some empty fuel cars tipped over near Barons, Alta., north of Lethbridge.

No injuries have been reported.

RCMP say diesel fuel is leaking from a fuel entry point because of the angle of the derailed engine car.

Fire crews, CP Rail and hazardous materials response teams from Calgary are on scene.

Traffic is being rerouted in the area.
