Country Mouse Farm celebrates another successful year

CYPRESS COUNTY, AB– For the past five years Country Mouse Tree farm has helped people pick out , and cut that perfect Christmas tree, and this year was no exception with about 150 trees distributed to local families this year.

Country Moose Farm held its season-opening at the end of November, and for two weekends, the family-run farm held their u-cut Christmas experience, which allowed families to come and cut a tree while celebrating all things Christmas.

“We were pretty busy both weekends, we were fortunate the first weekend that Santa was able to come to the farm, so that really brightened a lot of families,” said owner Gerald Bodnaruk

Growing perfectly-sized Christmas Trees is no easy feat, rather it is one that requires a lot of patience, love and care. Bodnaruk said it takes about 10 years for Christmas trees to grow to market size, and in those years leading up to the 10-year mark, the trees stay in the ground, hoping for ideal growing conditions.

“ Wind really dehydrates the trees and soil. We have irrigation so we can keep the soil moist. But not too dry and windy is ideal for us, and if it rains that would be great. But we don’t count on that,” Bodnaruk said.

For those who are ready to part ways with their beloved U-cut tree for the year. Bodnaruk said they can be taken free of charge at the Kipling Avenue Recycling Depot or the city landfill.

The trees get chipped and reused for the city’s flower planters as part of the city’s compost program.
