Medicine Hat family upset with vaccine booster rollout

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Concerns surfaced today in Alberta about the ability to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot, including in our community.

A number of Albertans were posting on social media about their issues with the province cancelling booked appointments.

One Medicine Hat resident told CHAT News she booked slots for herself and five family members only to see them cancelled hours later.

“You get an email back saying it is confirmed and later that day all of (the appointments) in a row (are) all cancelled. And it said ‘you’ cancelled them, which I did not,” Jodi Desjardins said.

The province didn’t comment today on issues with booking appointments but did send a statement to CHAT News on Thursday afternoon on vaccine availability.

“Select pharmacies may no longer have vaccines, or may only have one brand of vaccine; however, all pharmacies that ordered more supply last week received a top-up yesterday or will receive it today. As of December 22, 20 of the 21 pharmacies in Medicine Hat were showing as having supply in the Alberta Vaccine Inventory System. (Doses being 1,141 Pfizer and 540 Moderna),” the statement said.

The province is also encouraging Albertans 30 years of age and older who are eligible for a booster shot to receive the Moderna vaccine, regardless of what vaccine they received previously, citing a concern over a limited supply of the Pfizer vaccine.
