MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers allowed four power play goals in tonight’s 4-2 loss to the Saskatoon Blades.

In a battle of backup goalies, the Tigers were hoping to continue their home game winning streak. But eight and a half minutes into the first period, while Tiger Dru Krebs was in the penalty box, Blades forward Kyle Crnkovic slipped one past Beckett Langkow, scoring his first of two of the night.

Just over a minute later, Tiger Brayden Boehm scored his first goal of the season, with assists from Steven Arp and Oasiz Wiesblatt.

“First goal last year came in the first game and obviously not another one until now,” Boehm said. “It had been a while coming and it was kinda nice just to get that one under the belt.”

Later on in the first with Saskatoon again on the powerplay, Egor Sidorov scored, giving the Blades a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.

Five minutes into the second period with Tiger’s Bogdans Hodass in the box for tripping, Crnkovic scored his second of the night helping to extend the Blades lead to 3-1.

A few minutes later, Medicine Hat’s Oren Shtrom buried one behind Ethan Chadwick with assists from Rhett Parsons and Tyler MacKenzie, cutting the Blade’s lead down to one. Festive Medicine Hat fans wearing their Halloween costumes cheered loudly.

Tigers trailed 3-2 at the end of the second.

The third period started with Saskatoon on the powerplay as a result of a late second period call. A minute and a half in, Brendan Lee scored the Blade’s fourth powerplay goal of the night and the final tally of the game.

In the final few minutes, the Tiger’s pulled Langkow hoping to capitalize with the extra attacker but couldn’t find the back of the net. The final score was 4-2 for the Blades.

Head coach Willie Desjardins said the team played much better than the 4-0 loss to the Blades in Saskatoon on October 15.

“I thought we played pretty hard tonight,” Desjardins said. “I thought the last 25 minutes of that game we carried it to them so I was happy with the way the guys played and their effort.”

The Tigers are on the road in Swift Current for next Friday’s game. Then on Saturday, it’s back home against Moose Jaw.
