MOOSE JAW, SK – A too many men on the ice call haunted the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday night, falling in overtime 4-3 to kick off their weekend against the Moose Jaw Warriors.

During the final minute of a blistering three-on-three overtime, the Tigers were dealt a controversial too many men penalty and watched as Brayden Yager fired a one-timer past Garin Bjorklund for the game winner with just eight seconds left on the clock.

Moose Jaw opened the scoring on Friday as well, as New York Rangers prospect Ryder Korczak sniped top shelf 7:33 into the contest on the power play.

Trailing 1-0, the Tigers offence came alive as the first period progressed and were able to knot up the score with Corson Hopwo netting a shorthanded marker on a breakaway.

Medicine Hat took their first lead of the night just over a minute into the second frame on the man advantage courtesy of a bomb from the point by Daniel Baker for his second goal of the year.

Midway through the period, it appeared as though Moose Jaw had tied the game at 2-2 when a wild scramble in front of Bjorklund ended with the puck in the back of the net.

Upon further video review however, it was determined Logan Doust kicked the puck into the net and was waived off by the officials.

Moose Jaw got their revenge before the period was out though, as Eric Alarie picked up a rebound at the side of the net off a point shot from Lucas Brenton to head to the intermission tied at 2-2.

With just over six minutes remaining in the third, the Warriors jumped back into the lead with NHL draft eligible defenceman Denton Mateychuk showcasing some nifty moves joining in the rush to record the highlight-reel marker for the home side.

The Tigers pulled Bjorklund with a little over two minutes remaining and were able to force overtime with a Noah Danielson rebound goal with 90 seconds left in regulation, already their fourth game of the season to need extra time.

As the game appeared to be heading towards a shootout, the Tabbies were called for a too many men penalty with just 33 seconds remaining on OT to the dismay of the black and orange.

On the four-on-three power play, Yager finished off a cross-ice pass from Korczak before the buzzer sounded to send Medicine Hat home with one point.

Lukas Svejkovsky had a three-assist night for Medicine Hat, while netminder Garin Bjorklund allowed four goals on 30 shots against.

Dropping to a 4-4-1-1 record on the season, the Tigers return home to the confines of Co-Op Place on Saturday night to face off against the Saskatoon Blades at 7:00 pm.
