Special teams shine once more for Tigers in triumph over Raiders

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat Tigers forward Oasiz Wiesblatt admitted it was nice to get one back on his other brother.

Wiesblatt and the Tigers played arguably their most complete game of the season on Friday night, scoring five times over the second half of their rematch with the Prince Albert Raiders to skate away with a 6-2 victory on home ice.

It was sweet revenge for the Tabbies, after losing in a shootout to Prince Albert on the road less than a week ago.

Oren Shtrom opened the scoring nine minutes into the game, intercepting a cross-ice pass by Prince Albert and ripping his second of the year past Carter Serhyenko.

The Raiders answered back two and a half minutes later however with a nearly identical goal in the Tigers zone, as Dallyn Peekeekoot pounced on a Brayden Boehm turnover to knot the score at 1-1.

Five and a half minutes into the second, Prince Albert jumped out to their first lead of the night with a loose puck in the crease being knocked into the back of the net by Hayden Pakkala for his first career WHL goal.

Medicine Hat’s brilliance on special teams this week carried over to Friday night, as Wiesblatt tipped a Daniel Baker slap shot on the power play four minutes to make it a 2-2 contest.

That was followed up by another power play goal by Teague Patton shortly afterward, before Tigers rookie Steven Arp put home the first goal of his WHL career to boost the black and orange to a 4-2 advantage.

In the third, Medicine Hat would pick up goals from Corson Hopwo and Noah Danielson to put the game out of reach, recording their second straight win over a Saskatchewan opponent after taking down Swift Current 5-4 in overtime earlier in the week.

Beckett Langkow earned his second victory of the season with a 26-save performance for the Bengals, while the Tigers blanked NHL first round picks Ozzy Wiesblatt, Kaiden Guhle and Nolan Allen from the scoresheet.

Medicine Hat went 3-for-5 on the power play on Friday, while their penalty kill was perfect for the second straight game.

Improving to a 4-3-0-1 record through their first eight games, the surging Tigers hit the highway for Edmonton on Saturday night for a date with the Oil Kings at 7:00 pm.
