Shootout sinks Tigers in Saturday loss to Prince Albert

PRINCE ALBERT, SK – One week ago, the Medicine Hat Tigers pulled off a comeback victory in a shootout against the Edmonton Oil Kings.

On Saturday night, the Tigers came out on the opposite end dropping a 3-2 decision to the Prince Albert Raiders in a shootout to wrap up their Saskatchewan road trip.

Beckett Langkow made 37 saves in his second start of the WHL season, but it wasn’t enough to give Medicine Hat its first victory of the weekend.

After allowing an early goal in Friday’s 4-0 shutout loss in Saskatoon, the Tigers opened the scoring less than 90 seconds into the game as Oren Shtrom picked up a rebound for his first of the year.

That 1-0 score held for most of the night, before Prince Albert struck on the power play with under five minutes left in the second period courtesy of a Remy Aquilon point shot tipped by Cale Sanders.

Just as it appeared the Tigers and Raiders would be heading to the intermission deadlocked at 1-1, Ozzy Wiesblatt notched his fourth of the year following a save by Langkow off his mask with 24 seconds to play in the period.

Medicine Hat came out flying to begin the third looking for the equalizer, which was found by Noah Danielson on a shorthanded breakaway to tie up the game again at 2-2.

Overtime saw both Medicine Hat and Prince Albert exchange significant scoring chances, but Langkow and Carter Serhyenko managed to force the game to a shootout.

Wiesblatt and Reece Vitteli both found the back of the net for the Raiders, sending the Tigers back home winless over their short Saskatchewan road swing.

Dropping to a record of 2-3-0-1, the Tigers host the Swift Current Broncos for their first mid-week game of the season on Tuesday night at 7:00 pm at Co-Op Place.
