REDCLIFF, AB- With the election occurring on Monday, Redcliff Mayor Dwight Kilpatrick is hoping to earn enough votes to secure another term.

“I’ve been out doing door-to-door dropping off pamphlets. I’ve had some excellent helpers doing the same. We haven’t got the whole town done yet but we’ve got a good half or two-thirds,” he said.

Kilpatrick’s platform focuses on building good roads and infrastructure while continuing to invest in recreation facilities.

“ Those are the kinds of things that will draw people here and businesses. Everyone loves to talk economic development, and that’s a wonderful thing, everyone wants that, everyone needs that. But you need stability and proper infrastructure to handle that growth,” he said.

Over the past four years, the mayor said the town has invested in recreation significantly, with the splash park in Lions park, followed by the toddler playground. Upgrades to both the pool and arena ,also took place, along with Memorial park. The tennis court also got redone, with the addition of two more pickleball courts.

Kilpatrick has lived in Redcliff for 40 years. He started his own construction business and and later became mayor in 2017.

“I like this town, I am proud of this town. I wish all citizens could be proud of this town because it would make it a much better place.” he said

The mayor said if re-elected he would like to see the town grow in a more positive direction with better infrastructure and more jobs to support the community.

The mayoral race is tight with four candidates in the running, including former mayor Ernie Reimer and town councilor Shawna Gale. Kilpatrick said he believes the race will be close come election day.

“I think every election you have to worry. That’s a normal thing. To me I have never gone into an election thinking it is a slam dunk, “Kilpatrick said.
