Part of River Road to temporarily close

Oct 8, 2021 | 12:14 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Part of River Road SE will be closed for about two weeks starting on Oct. 11.

The stretch of the road between the entrance to the City Hall parkade and the Provincial Law Courts parkade will be closed with no through-traffic.

The closure is needed because of window work at Medicine Hat City Hall.

According to a release from the City of Medicine Hat, a large crane will be parked on River Road SE to facilitate the safe transfer of materials to the sloped and elevated levels of city hall for the ongoing glass replacement project.

The city hall parkade remains accessible from the YMCA side of River Road SE, though the parkade is currently closed to public access under COVID-19 protocols. The parkade at the Provincial Law Courts is accessible from the library side.

The city says glass replacement along the hallway outside council chambers is complete, and work now moves to the three-storey atrium.
