Medicine Hat College to resume classes following brief shutdown

Sep 17, 2021 | 5:01 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – It was another day of empty classrooms at Medicine Hat College today, the second day in a row the institution had no classes following Wednesday’s unveiling of new pandemic measures in Alberta.

However, MHC officials told CHAT News today the college plans to resume classes come Monday morning.

No other details were released about how the college intends to deal with the new changes announced by Premier Jason Kenney, Health Minister Tyler Shandro, and chief medical officer of health Deena Hinshaw on Wednesday evening, along with declaring a state of emergency.

“Medicine Hat College is working through the protocols and seeking additional direction for post-secondary education. However, it is clear that we must increase efforts to provide a safe campus environment,” a statement released by the college reads.

MHC officials said today there are still many factors being looked at before they can speak to how the college plans to address the changes.

They include a new program requiring people to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test in order to access participating businesses and social events.
