49 new cases in city, 1,168 in province

New COVID-19 cases up for the third day in a row in Alberta

The province has recorded the highest number of new daily cases in the fourth wave for the third straight day. Provincial hospitalizations and ICU admission are also rising sharply, and active cases in Medicine Hat have gone up again.

There are 524 active cases of COVID-19 in Medicine Hat on Friday.

Medicine Hat has had 2,275 total cases – the 524 active, 1,723 recovered and there have been 28 deaths.

There are 49 new cases in the city in the past 24 hours and 38 new recoveries.

An AHS spokesperson told CHAT News on Friday that AHS South Zone currently has 40 COVID-19 positive inpatients in the South Zone with 13 of those in the ICU. There are 21 inpatients at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital with six in the ICU. MHRH has 10 beds for ICU patients.

Chinook Regional Hospital has 12 with seven in the ICU. Cardston Health Centre has four inpatients, Pincher Creek Health Centre has two and Crowsnest Pass Health Centre has one.

Among Hatters 12 and over, 72.5 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 65.4 per cent are fully vaccinated.

62.9 per cent of all Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update and 56.8 per cent of Hatters are fully vaccinated.

There are 9,655 active cases in the province, up 589 from Thursday, and 236,935 recovered cases in the province, up 575.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 248,954.

There are 1,168 new cases in the province in the past 24 hours, and 750 more variant of concern cases have been identified.

There are now 336 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 74 of which are in ICU, and 2,364 deaths.

The province completed 11,565 tests in the past 24 hours.

The positivity rate is about 10.1 per cent.

Alberta has administered 5,528,420 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

Among new cases today, 73.5 per cent are unvaccinated, 9.5 per cent are partially vaccinated and 17.1 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among current hospitalizations, 78 per cent are unvaccinated, 3.6 per cent are partially vaccinated and 18.5 per cent are fully vaccinated.

The number of local outbreaks listed on AHS website has been rising across the city in the past weeks.

Listed new this week are outbreaks at two childcare facilities – Building Blocks Childcare in Medicine Hat and IF Cox Kindercare Program in Redcliff. An outbreak at iron horse Energy Services was added on Friday

Outbreaks have been declared at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and a handful of other health-care facilities.

The city has the second-highest cases rate per 100,000 people at 769.3. The ID of Wood Buffalo has the highest rate at 12,776.5. There are 75 active cases among the small population of just 587 people.

Province-wide, 77.7 per cent of Albertans 12 years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 69.3 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Alberta’s total population, 66.1 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 59 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are 1,074 active cases and 13,232 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 145.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of Aug. 16-22 is 1.19. It is 1.05 in Calgary Zone, 1.32 in Edmonton Zone and 1.22 in the rest of Alberta.

It’s updated every two weeks. At the last update from Aug. 2-8 the numbers were 1.25 province-wide, 1.09 in Calgary Zone, 1.41 in Edmonton Zone and 1.41 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 465 cases. There are 79 active cases, 385 recovered and one death. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 54.1 per cent, the two-dose rate is 47.5. The county has the third-highest case rate per 100,000 people at 699.2.

The County of Forty Mile has 173 total cases. There are 13 active cases, 157 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 31.3 per cent, the two-dose rate is 28.

The MD of Taber has 622 total cases — 37 active cases, 579 recovered and there have been six deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 38.3 per cent, the two-dose rate is 34.6.

Special Areas No. 2 has 118 total cases – nine active cases, 108 recovered and there has been one death.

Brooks has 1,607 total cases — 64 active cases and 1,528 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 15 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 279 cases — 21 active cases, 255 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 52.6 per cent, the two-dose rate is 46.3. The Newell numbers include the city of Brooks.

The County of Warner has 481 total cases. There are six active cases, 472 are recovered cases and there have been three deaths in the county. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 48.1 per cent, the two-dose rate is 42.4.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 5,129 cases. There are 160 active cases, 4,929 recovered and there have been 40 deaths. Lethbridge County has 1,323 cases, 36 active cases, 1,273 recovered and there have been 14 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Aug. 26, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 53,262 cases, 1,753 considered active. There are 50,913 recovered cases and there have been 596 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
