26 new cases in city, 1,112 in province

Active COVID-19 cases down in Medicine Hat, up in province; one new death in city

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Medicine Hat has dropped by 20, but provincial numbers moving in the other direction.

There are 513 active cases of COVID-19 in Medicine Hat on Thursday and the province has gone over 9,000 again with more than 1,100 new daily cases.

Medicine Hat has had 2,226 total cases – the 513 active, 1,640 recovered and there have been 28 deaths, one new today.

There are 26 new cases in the city in the past 24 hours and 45 new recoveries.

An AHS spokesperson told CHAT News on Monday that AHS South Zone currently has 32 COVID-19 positive individuals in hospital, with 10 of those in the ICU. There are 20 positive inpatients at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, with seven of those in the ICU. MHRH has 10 beds for ICU patients.

Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge has six inpatients, with three of those in the ICU. The Cardston Health Centre has four inpatients, and both Big Country Hospital in Oyen and the Crowsnest Pass Health Centre have one inpatient each.

Among Hatters 12 and over, 72.3 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 65.3 per cent are fully vaccinated.

62.8 per cent of all Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update and 56.7 per cent of Hatters are fully vaccinated.

There are 9,066 active cases in the province, up 570 from Wednesday, and 236,360 recovered cases in the province, up 538.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 247,786.

There are 1,112 new cases in the province in the past 24 hours, and 692 more variant of concern cases have been identified.

There are now 308 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 64 of which are in ICU, and 2,360 deaths.

The province completed 10,572 tests in the past 24 hours.

The positivity rate is about 10.5 per cent.

Alberta has administered 5,520,209 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

The number of local outbreaks listed on AHS website has been rising across the city in the past weeks.

Listed new this week are outbreaks at two childcare facilities – Building Blocks Childcare in Medicine Hat and IF Cox Kindercare Program in Redcliff.

Outbreaks have been declared at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and a handful of other health-care facilities.

The city has the second-highest cases rate per 100,000 people at 753.1. The ID of Wood Buffalo has the highest rate at 8,347.3. There are 49 active cases among the small population of just 587 people.

Province-wide, 77.6 per cent of Albertans 12 years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 69.2 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Alberta’s total population, 66 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 58.8 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are 1,055 active cases and 13,156 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 145.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of Aug. 16-22 is 1.19. It is 1.05 in Calgary Zone, 1.32 in Edmonton Zone and 1.22 in the rest of Alberta.

It’s updated every two weeks. At the last update from Aug. 2-8 the numbers were 1.25 province-wide, 1.09 in Calgary Zone, 1.41 in Edmonton Zone and 1.41 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 459 cases. There are 82 active cases, 376 recovered and one death. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 54 per cent, the two-dose rate is 47.4. The county has the third-highest case rate per 100,000 people at 725.8.

The County of Forty Mile has 172 total cases. There are 12 active cases, 157 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 31.3 per cent, the two-dose rate is 28.

The MD of Taber has 618 total cases — 35 active cases, 577 recovered and there have been six deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 38.2 per cent, the two-dose rate is 34.5.

Special Areas No. 2 has 116 total cases – seven active cases, 108 recovered and there has been one death.

Brooks has 1,598 total cases — 57 active cases and 1,526 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 15 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 277 cases — 20 active cases, 254 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 52.5 per cent, the two-dose rate is 46.1. The Newell numbers include the city of Brooks.

The County of Warner has 489 total cases. There are nine active cases, 471 are recovered cases and there have been three deaths in the county. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 48 per cent, the two-dose rate is 42.3.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 5,119 cases. There are 160 active cases, 4,919 recovered and there have been 40 deaths. Lethbridge County has 1,319 cases, 38 active cases, 1,267 recovered and there have been 14 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Aug. 25, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 53,004 cases, 1,602 considered active. There are 50,808 recovered cases and there have been 594 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
