Update: Body of missing Redcliff man found

REDCLIFF, AB– After a massive search of the South Saskatchewan River, the body of a missing 34-year-old Redcliff resident has been located.

RCMP confirm the deceased body was found in the river by police and the Medicine Hat Aquatics team at around 6:50 p.m. Sunday evening.

Police say the body will be transported to the medical examiner’s office who will determine if any additional factors played a role in the death.

Family members of the man have been notified, according to RCMP.

ORIGINAL STORY- Search crews continue to comb the South Saskatchewan River looking for any signs of a missing man who has been missing since Saturday evening.

RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff confirmed the missing man is a 34-year-old Redcliff resident. Police are unable to release the name as of yet.

Officers received a report of a possible drowning just after 6.pm. on Saturday at the Redcliff River Valley Park. According to police, witnesses said the man was swimming with his friends and he tried to cross the river but experienced difficulty once he reached the halfway point.

” His friend attempted to enter the river to assist him however ultimately he was last seen going under the water,” Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said.

Redcliff RCMP, Redcliff Fire, Halo Air Ambulance, South East Search and Rescue and emergency crews from Medicine Hat responded to the scene. The search was called off at around 10 p.m. last night due to darkness.

The entrance to the boat launch at the Redcliff River Valley Park remains closed, as crews continue to look for the missing man.
