New wheelchairs at Medicine Hat hospital

MEDICINE HAT, AB – New wheelchairs are making it easier for patients at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital to get around.

The new chairs, called a Staxi System, adapt to whatever the patient’s health needs are, with spaces for IV bags and oxygen tanks.

They are versatile, easy to use and have a conventional braking system.

Medicine Hat and District Health Foundation executive director Heather Bach says they are a great upgrade.

“They’re higher built so getting out of your car and into these is an easier transition, the arms of them lift up, so it’s easy for the patient to get in them as well it’s not as awkward and they’re a very smooth ride, they’re nice and easy to push,” Bach said.

The chairs were introduced last week and are a result of a donation from the health foundation.
