Health foundation hosting Food Trucks for Mental Health

Jul 6, 2021 | 11:54 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – By getting lunch this week from local food trucks you’ll also be helping the Medicine Hat and District Health Foundation raise money for mental health supports.

From 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily until Saturday food trucks will be parked outside the RBC on 13th Avenue. A portion of all the meals sold will go to the health foundation’s Giving Hope fundraiser.

“If anything good came out of this pandemic that I’ve seen is definitely the fact that we’re stronger as a community and we’re stronger together,” said MHDHF executive director Heather Bach. “I know we’re sick of hearing the words ‘stronger together,’ but it’s true both in the mental health capacity but also in a business sense.”

The funds will go to creating an outdoor space at the Medicine Hat Recovery Centre, painting and buying patio furniture for the psychiatric ward at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, as well as other mental health initiatives in the community.

Bach says the stigma around mental health is getting smaller.

“It’s not as big and everyone is getting more comfortable talking about mental health and their own mental health,” she says. “Not only are you supporting the Health Foundation and mental health in the hospital and in-patient services, but you’re helping all of us. You’re helping spread the message in making everyone in the community more comfortable talking about mental health.”

The health foundation’s goal is to raise $500,000. They’re already over the first $100,000.
