Happy trails: New routes open, under construction in Cypress Hills

MEDICINE HAT, AB – There are 12 to 14 kilometers of new trails currently under construction right now at Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park and three of them are already open.

The newest section, currently called Blue Flow, started being built last fall. Once complete, hikers and bikers will have access to new trails accessible for all abilities.

Construction of the various projects is weather-dependent, but Chris Dodds with Cypress Hills Provincial Park hopes it’s all complete by the fall.

Dodds says he’s excited about the new additions.

“It’s a great addition to the trail networks in Southeast Alberta,” Dodds said. “We have such an amazing city and community here and by building these trails, it creates tourism and recreational opportunities for Albertans, from Medicine Hat or Cypress County or if you’re coming to camp in the park from farther away. We really do have some of the best.”

Dodds says if you go explore the new trails, check-in with parks staff as the conditions of the trails can change daily.
