Second COVID-19 cases confirmed at two schools

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Two city schools have identified their second cases of COVID-19.

The Medicine Hat Public School Division made the announcements for Medicine Hat Christian School and Alexandra Middle School on Tuesday evening.

It’s the second case identified at in as many days at Medicine Hat Christian School.

Alexandra Middle School’s first case was identified on April 22.

Both schools remain on Alert status, says the public school division.

As a result of the cases, AHS has directed some students and staff to quarantine for a specified time period. All close contacts of the positive cases have been identified and quarantined. The schools will remain open.

Based on AHS guidance, the division says that those who have not been directed to quarantine can attend school safely. Siblings and family members of close contacts are not required to quarantine; however, they are asked to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19.
