MEDICINE HAT, AB– The intricate rescue of two teenage girls at Kin Coulee Friday has the Medicine Hat fire service reminding the public to stay safe and avoid steep embankments.

The Medicine Hat Fire Service was called to a report of two teenage girls in need of help after they were trapped halfway up the ridge and couldn’t find a way down.

The report came in at around 4:30 p.m, according to the Medicine Hat Fire Service.

That report triggered a response from the fire service’s technical rescue team. The team is made up of firefighters with specialized training from each of the four platoons.

“They put anchors in at the top of where the girls were above them, and then roped down, and assisted the girls down to the bottom by hooking them up to the ropes, and lowering them down,” said acting platoon chief Scott Nadeau.

The rescue took about one hour long, and no one was hurt.
