MEDICINE HAT, AB– Early this morning, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh passed away at 99 years old.

Retired weapons technician Mark Lowe from Ralston spent today reflecting on Prince Philip’s long life.

“He always seemed a genuine guy and obviously with what he’s done over the years, obviously he was there when the Second World War was about, you know the military things he did, all his, his appointments he did around the world, yeah he was a pretty stand- up guy,” said Lowe.

Medicine Hat’s very own member of of the Monarchist League of Canada Bill Cocks compares his royal highness’ death to a loss of long grandparent, saying it’s sad he is gone but he was a widely respected man .

“I mean he’s always been there, he sometimes put his foot in his mouth but in a way that’s one of the things that I like about him. He spoke his mind, perhaps on a few occasions maybe when he shouldn’t have, he didn’t say things out of malicious or in a way to try and hurt or even necessarily profoundly influence society but he just said what he though,” said Cocks.

He also added that Prince Philip’s death is going to lead to the institutional change of the monarchy when a new generation is brought to the throne after Queen Elizabeth’s death.
