MEDICINE HAT, AB — Tee times at Medicine Hat golf courses are filling up quickly.

After only being open for a few weeks, courses say this is one of the busiest starts they’ve ever seen.

“I think we can do a lot of things on the golf course to minimize contact points and keep people safe,” Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club general manager Cam Jacques said. “At the same time, offer them a venue to go out and get some exercise and free up their mind from all this covid fatigue.”

Golfing was one of the few physical activities still allowed during last year’s COVID-19 shutdown, thanks to the wide-open space and ability to spread out.

As a result, Jacques says he’s seeing a huge increase in young golfers.

Over at Cottonwood Coulee Golf Course, manager Mac Baker says they invested a lot of time and resources so things can be done safely.

“We’ve taken precautions where people can pick up their carts, we have people who are able to check-in and pay for their golf while remaining outside,” Baker said. “They have different options if they don’t want to come into the clubhouse.”

Both managers are hopeful they can remain open, even if more restrictions come into place.
