MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat College’s Entrepreneur Development Centre is getting a funding boost the enhance its programming.

Royal Bank of Canada Foundation (RBC), a founding partner and longtime supporter, is contributing $75,000 for the current school year.

The funding is being utilized in the stewardship and enhancement of a number of EDC programs that provide mentorship and experiential learning opportunities to students and aspiring entrepreneurs in our region, says a release from the college.

Shifting the programs to online learning became critical this year.

“One of the many things we were able to do with RBC’s support this year was to pivot our existing programming to online delivery, which improved learning flexibility and reduced the barriers for students to access the content and materials,” says Christie Wilson, MHC’s entrepreneur outreach coordinator.

“For example, our Venture Start Up program is offered in multiple local high schools and involves eight weeks of entrepreneurial mentorship from industry professionals as well as practical coursework for the students to complete throughout the semester. We were able to create online self-serve modules, ensuring that students would not miss out on the valuable information and skills that greatly benefit and support their futures in entrepreneurship.”

Start Up Essentials will also be offered online this year. It’s an eight-week program designed to help aspiring and early-stage entrepreneurs turn their idea into a viable business venture through the acquisition of essential skills and mentorship from industry leaders.

Scale Up Essentials is a new program created due to the RBC contribution. It’s described as suited for solo-prenuers, small business owners, and student entrepreneurs that are considering growing or pivoting their business.

Participants will learn how to identify and validate new product lines, develop a growth funding strategy, and devote time to renewing their business model through six-weeks of course material, mentorship, and coaching.

Registration is open for both programs, which will run through April and May.
