TABER, AB – The results of Taber’s 2020 Municipal Census are in.

Conducted between Oct. 1 and Dec. 10, 2020, the population has been officially registered at 8,711.

This marks an increase of 0.79 per cent from the 2019 census and a 3.9 per cent rise since 2015.

“Taber is a thriving and growing community, and the census results reveal that residents continue to choose Taber as the place to live, work, raise a family, and retire,” said Mayor Prokop, “Council is thankful for each household who participated in the census, and for each resident that calls the Town of Taber home.”

Average households in the community have 2.75 residents.

There is a high concentration of both seniors and children with those in the 15-29 age group being the smallest.

78.36 per cent of Taber residents speak English as their primary language. German was the second-most-popular at 6.18 per cent followed by Tagalog at 2.74 per cent.

The town is home to slightly more males (3,589) than females (3,455). People, for the first time, were able to select “other gender identity” in this census with 0.13 per cent choosing this option.

“Our entire team of enumerators and Administrative staff worked very hard to have a successful census and the response rate reflects that we have met that goal,” said Phyllis Monks, Director of Planning and Economic Development.
