COVID-19 update: 717 new cases reported on Saturday

EDMONTON, AB- There are 717 new cases of COVID-19 reported across the province on Saturday.

In total, there are 12, 713 active cases of the virus and 101,957 recoveries.

12,439 tests were completed over the past 24 hours, bringing the provincial positivity rate to 5.6 per cent.

The province also recorded 15 new deaths. 1,214 people have died from COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

There are 765 people hospitalized from COVID-19 and 122 people are in ICU.

Updated regional numbers were not made available. As of last update on Friday, Medicine Hat had 39 active cases, 463 recoveries, and 11 deaths.

Cypress County has three active cases 141 recoveries.

The city of Brooks has 11 active cases 1,337 recoveries and 14 deaths.

The County of Newell has five active cases, 139 recoveries and two deaths.

Taking to Twitter Saturday afternoon, the province’s chief medical officer of health advised Albertans to take advantage of the mild weather, but to do so while staying physically distant and following all public health protocols.
