UPDATE: Two pedestrians hit in crosswalk, taken to hospital

Jan 11, 2021 | 1:42 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat police say two pedestrians were hit in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Cameron Road and Carry Drive SE just before 1:15 p.m. on Monday.

Both female pedestrians were transported to hospital for assessment, but police say in a release that “their physical injuries do not appear to be serious.”

According to police, a GMC Acadia was eastbound on Carry Drive, attempting to turn left on Cameron Road, when the driver did not yield to the pedestrians in the crosswalk.

The female driver was issued a ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

The intersection was closed for about 40 minutes as a result of the collision.

Intersection safety is the focus this month for the MHPS traffic unit.

“Intersections are often high-risk locations and motorists are reminded to slow down and take extra caution, keeping an eye out for pedestrians and cyclists,” police say. “Aggressive behaviours such as speeding, running red lights, or entering the intersection without properly looking could result in collisions, injury, and death.”
