2:10 p.m. Environment Canada’s winter storm watch remains in effect for the city the surrounding area.

Snow and blowing snow will continue until late this afternoon or early this evening, according to Environment Canada.

Most highways around the city are still bare wet or dry, says 511 Alberta, with the exceptions of Highway 1 through the city and Highway 41 south of the Trans-Canada Highway. Those are partly covered by snow/ice.

Highways around Brooks are still covered with snow and/or ice, according to 511 Alberta.

8:50 a.m. Highways around Medicine Hat are generally bare wet or dry but that’s not the case near Brooks.

511 Alberta reports Highway 1 on both sides of Brooks and Highway 36 north of the city are covered with snow and/or ice. Highway 36 south of Brooks is partly covered.

Highway 41 and Highway 9 around Oyen are also covered with snow and/or ice.

5:50 a.m. Winter storm warnings remain in place for much of Southern Alberta and Saskatchewan this morning.

Radar shows the storm is just to the north of Medicine Hat and is expected to continue moving eastward as the day progresses.

But, Environment Canada is still forecasting 5 to 15 cm of additional snowfall, with strong northerly winds developing this morning.

Gusts to 80 kph are expected to produce blowing snow until late this afternoon, and non-essential travel should wait until conditions improve.
