City crews getting the roads cleared for Christmas

MEDICINE HAT, AB – It’ll be a white Christmas in Medicine Hat this year but the manager of municipal works is hoping the roads will at least be clear of snow for the holidays.

Jeremy Petryshyn says the city’s plows, sanders and graders were all deployed by mid-day Tuesday, will continue to hit the priority main arteries and hills throughout the day and into the evening and then will be back at it by 4 a.m. Wednesday.

He expects the roads will be in good shape by Christmas Eve and a far cry from the walloping the city took from last month’s snowstorm.

“This is a minor event compared to the one we saw there in November,” said Petryshyn. “We’re only going to see accumulations of five to 10 centimetres where that was 30.”

He added the weather should help get the roads in shape as well.

“We’re going to see some warm temperatures for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday so that will help a little bit with getting the roads bare and dry,” he said.

However, the current forecast sees the snow return to the area by Saturday.
