Westminster United Church sharing the warmth

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The congregation at Westminster United Church in Medicine Hat is sharing the warmth this winter.

Minister Lynn McKinnon says they still wanted to do something as a church for the community during this time.

She says Arlea Harper came up with the idea to create wood pallet trees to hold winter gear.

The church congregation will be donating warm items like toques and gloves.

Reusable homemade masks will also be added to the trees.

The items will be packaged in bags for minimal contact and the two trees will be set out daily.

“There are people that we may not see, whether their homeless or having difficulty with being able to afford to get hats, mitts, and things that they might need to stay warm when they’re out in the daytime,” she said.

McKinnon adds the trees will be up until after Christmas with winter gear as long as they have supply.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Westminster United Church services will be posted as a recording online.

That includes Sunday services, Christmas Eve, and The Longest Night service on December 21.

They can be found by visiting their website or Facebook page.
