MEDICINE HAT, AB – Recent shipments from Prairie Gleaners will help feed people on two continents.

On Nov. 25 and partnering with Manitoba-based Faith Missions Inc., Prairie Gleaners supplied 1,120 bags of its dehydrated soup mix, equivalent to 140,000 cups of rehydrated soup. The bags went to Winkler, Man. where they will be added to a sea container headed to the Ukraine. The container is already filled with clothes, blankets, medical equipment and more.

On Dec. 1, a sea container with about 5,600 bags of the dehydrated soup mix was sent to the Dominican Republic. The 5,600 bags will make about 700,000 cups of soup. This was a partnership with Food for the Hungry, Association Dominica De Rehabilitation.

In a release, Prairie Gleaners says it is very exciting to see vegetables grown in southern Alberta feeding people in countries around the world.

The plant’s last day of production for 2020 is Dec. 18 before it’s closed for cleaning and maintenance. Regular production will resume on Jan. 12.

A Christian, volunteer-based organization, Prairie Gleaners sends local produce that is not marketable here to resource-poor communities and people in need around the world.
