Nature centre still spreading festive cheer despite enhanced health measures

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Despite the cancellation this year of Police Point Park’s annual Christmas hayrides, the park still plans to be festive this holiday season.

The park will provide animal-themed Christmas tree decoration kits for families to work on.

While the kits are free, the park is hoping those taking part will return a finished decoration for the Police Point Park Interpretive Centre’s own Christmas tree.

Park interpreter Kat Valenzuela says it’s part of an effort to continue to provide Hatters with safe activities over the season.

“People can come here and they can grab an activity to do, they could also possibly go out and enjoy a day out in nature and go out for a walk and then bring home the kit and do it together as a family,” said Valenzuela. “So it’s a nice little activity that brings people together.”

Valenzuela says the park is also providing sketchbooks as part of an initiative supported by renowned Canadian wildlife artist Robert Bateman and his namesake foundation to help promote nature drawing.
