MEDICINE HAT, AB – A student has tested positive for COVID-19 at Crescent Heights High School and an outbreak has been declared at Crestwood School.

A letter sent to Crestwood parents says “Alberta Health Services (AHS) has identified a positive case of COVID-19 in two students at Crestwood School. As a result, Alberta Health Services has deemed these cases as a school outbreak. An outbreak occurs when two or more individuals test positive for COVID-19, within 14 days, at the same school.”

Letters sent to parents with children at both schools states that some students and staff have been directed to self-isolate for a specified period. All close contacts of the positive cases have been identified and are already self-isolating.

“It appears that the exposure was limited to a small group of students and staff and we are confident, based on AHS guidance, that staff and students who have not been directed to isolate can attend school safely,” the letters read.

Siblings and family members of close contacts are not required to self-isolate.

Enhanced cleaning prior to the start of school today has taken place with a focus on areas where the person was present and high touch surfaces.
