Following productive meetings between AHS, the Palliser Primary Care Network (PCN) and local physicians, we are pleased to confirm that the Medicine Hat Family Medicine Maternity Clinic (FMMC) will continue to see patients until at least July 2021.

According to a release from Alberta Health Services, FMMC physicians, AHS and the PCN will continue to work together to explore options, such as location, beyond that date.

“We have heard significant concern from the community about the impact of losing this clinic,” says Dr. Gerry Prince, FMMC lead physician. “We are hopeful that this extension will allow us time to explore options that ensure a sustainable obstetric service into the future.”

“Obstetrical support will continue to be available for expectant mothers,” says Dr. Michael Auld, Interim South Zone Medical Director. “AHS will work with the PCN and primary care physicians as we develop and build a collaborative future delivery model for obstetrical services in Medicine Hat.”

“We are pleased this valuable service is being continued,” says Treena Klassen, Executive Director Palliser PCN. “The PCN, AHS, and the family physicians will continue to work together to explore options, and find a sustainable solution, to provide maternity services in Medicine Hat.”

Opposition Leader Rachel Notley and MLAs Shannon Phillips and Janis Irwin gathered in the noon hour Thursday along with Medicine Hat parents in Medicine Hat.

Their goal is to call on Jason Kenney to try and prevent the closure of the Maternity Clinic at Medicine Hat Hospital and the cuts to health-care announced by the UCP for the province.
