Second charge laid against Penhold man following Sept. 20 anti-racism rally

Oct 28, 2020 | 11:09 AM

A Penhold man faces an additional charge stemming from an anti-racism rally that turned violent in Red Deer on Sept. 20.

RCMP said their investigation into the altercations that broke out at the rally revealed that three separate assault incidents took place.

Trevor Lyle Roy, 42, faces two counts of assault, one for an incident that occurred prior to the start of the rally and now for a second incident that occurred while the event at Rotary Recreation Park was underway.

Roy is scheduled to appear in Red Deer provincial court on Nov. 17.

Last week, RCMP announced that Taylor McNallie, a prominent anti-racism activist from Calgary, has been charged with assault with a weapon for an incident at the rally and is due in court on Nov. 10.

Red Deer RCMP say their investigation into the events of that day is now complete and no further charges are expected.
