A third school in Brooks is dealing with a case of COVID-19.

This time, Grasslands Public Schools is alerting students, staff and the school community about a COVID-19 alert at Eastbrook Elementary School.

According to a release on Oct. 27, the individual diagnosed with COVID was last in the school on Oct. 23.

As with the other cases this week, the release from Grasslands Public Schools says officials are working closely with Alberta Health Services to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all students and staff.

“From the AHS investigation to date, a number of close contacts have been identified and will be notified. Public Health and the school will work closely together to ensure accurate contact tracing. If you are not contacted by AHS, you and/or your children are not considered close contacts and no further action is required.”

The release says school will proceed as normal on Oct. 28 (today)

It also says enhanced cleaning protocols are in effect and are focusing on areas the cases were present, high touch areas and surfaces throughout the facility.

The release also reminds families to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 using the Alberta Health Daily Checklist and asks people to complete the checklist each day prior to attending school. It also asks that if you or a member of your family has any of the symptoms of illness listed, to fill out the online Alberta Health Services COVID-19 self-assessment or call Health Link at 811.

Brooks was a hotpsot for the virus earlier this year, with more than 1,000 active cases in the spring. There are 30 active cases as of Tuesday’s online update.

The website supportourstudents.ca, which is tracking instances of cases in schools across the province, has added Eastbrook Elementary School to its list. Brooks Junior High School was added to the list on Oct. 27, and Brooks Composite High School was added to the list on Oct. 26. Tilley School was added to the list on Oct. 19.

Earlier this week Medicine Hat’s Dr. Roy Wilson Learning Centre in and Parkside School in Redcliff issued alerts.
