Investigation underway into Calgary minor hockey team over locker room video

Oct 26, 2020 | 3:11 PM

CALGARY – Minor hockey players have had their privileges suspended after they were filmed pushing a boy against a locker room wall until he collapsed.

Hockey Calgary executive director Kevin Kobelka, says it happened at a city arena a week ago and involved players aged 14 and 15.

He calls the incident disappointing and disturbing and says it’s not behavior his organization condones.

Kobelka says it seems no adults were supervising the boys.

Coaches responsible for the teens at the time have also had their privileges revoked pending an investigation.

Video obtained by local media shows teens counting to 30 and then pushing a boy into a wall by the chest.

Another member of the group is seen emptying a water bottle over the boy’s head.

He falls to the ground and briefly twitches before getting up.

The Northwest Warriors hockey club is leading an investigation with the support of Hockey Calgary.

Its executive says in a statement to families that they should stop circulating the video because it could lead to cyber-bullying.
