RALSTON, AB – Members of the British Army Training Unit Suffield (BATUS) surpassed two goals during their 24-hour cycle challenge last week.

The challenge was a fundraiser to support the Medicine Hat Food Bank and ABF Soldiers’ Charity.

They rode 830 kilometres collectively, up from their goal of 720 kilometres.

The team also surpassed their fundraising goals.

Cpl Kwesi Nyalemegbe says they raised $3,200 dollars.

Funds will support the Medicine Hat Food Bank and ABF Soldiers’ Charity.

The four members who cycled did not eat or sleep for a full day and rode the stationary bike for six hours each.

Cpl Nyalemegbe says they are sore, it was challenging throughout, but it went really well.

“It did give us a taste of how uncomfortable it is not to have food for just one day. And you can imagine those who don’t have it for longer periods so we did appreciate that aspect.”

The 24-hour cycle challenge started at 3 PM Thursday, September 24, and ended at 3 PM on Friday, September 25 at the C.F.B Suffield Recreation Centre in Ralston, AB.

Cpl Nyalemegbe thanks both the local supporters and supporters from the United Kingdom who contributed to the challenge.
