SIKSIKA NATION, AB – Two people have been charged and one person was injured after shots were fired from a vehicle on the Siksika Nation this week.

Gleichen RCMP say an adult male victim suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the Monday incident, but that the injuries were not firearm related.

The RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) set up containment around the residence the suspects were seen to enter. When the suspects refused to exit the residence the ERT entered and arrested the suspects without incident.

A rifle, ammunition and a baton were seized.

Paul Mcmaster, 35, of Siksika Nation was charged with 31 offences, including unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, three counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and nine counts of failing to comply with a release order.

Kaydria Wright, 28, of Siksika Nation was charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and four counts of failing to comply with a release order.

Both appeared in Siksika Provincial Court on Sept. 24 and had their matters put over until Oct. 1.
