Residents “Keep In Touch” with local program

Sep 17, 2020 | 5:38 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Someone to talk to and an ear to listen, the Keep In Touch Program is a friendly phone call of support for residents.

The program is with the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta.

It connects local volunteers with residents who may be struggling with isolation or just wants someone to talk to.

Participants receive a regular phone call of support and encouragement from a volunteer.

The Community Foundation says this program is for anyone.

And if you or someone you know is feeling lonely or disconnected, are welcome to join.

Keep In Touch Volunteer Laure Pyatt says something as little as a phone call can have a big impact on someone’s life.

“And it’s nice now that I’m getting to know my participants too because it feels like more of a catch up from the week. I speak with both of mine once a week so I always look forward to the next phone call to see how their week has been and how they’re doing.”

Volunteers also have the opportunity to give participants community support resources if needed.

“If anybody has an extra hour a week or two to open up their hearts to have a participant in their lives, it’s just as enriching for me as it is for the person on the other end of the line,” Pyatt added.

Volunteers are screened, and more are welcome.

To volunteer or if you need someone to talk to call CFSEA at 403-527-9038 or email sydney@cfsea.ca

CFSEA says they have 10 participants and can definitely take more participants.

Keep In Touch has about 18 volunteers, and have 7 nursing students starting as volunteers.
