MEDICINE HAT, AB – A man facing an assault charge in connection to a feud between two rival gas stations has pleaded not guilty with a trial set for next month.

Anwar Kamaran, 44, was charged with one count of assault in connection to an incident that occurred on Aug. 8 between him one of the owners of the Trailside gas station in Walsh, Alta.

A trial date of Oct. 19 has been set on that matter.

Kamaran is also facing allegations of two counts of assault causing bodily harm in connection with an Aug. 9 incident which saw the other owner of Trailside injured, along with his adult son.

The lawyer for Kamaran asked those charges also go to trial on Oct. 19, though a final decision was not made on that request.

Both incidents follow more than a year of escalating disputes between the owners of Trailside and Kamaran, who runs neighbouring station, Save On Gas.

Kamaran is also facing allegations of failing to comply with conditions issued from the first assault stemming from alleged actions committed during the two subsequent assaults.

Kamaran was released from custody following a bail hearing on Aug. 12.

He is under conditions to stay away from Walsh except for Thursday from 8 p.m. to Friday at 5 a.m. and Saturday and Sunday over the same time period.
