Book sale raising money for APARC’s cats, kittens

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Page & Whisker is hosting a used book sale to benefit city cats this weekend.

The sale is on now and runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Rite Downtown Farmers Market Space on Second Street SE.

All money raised from the sale will go to the Alberta Pound and Rescue Centre.

With APARC unable to do hold fundraisers for most of the year, the money raised will go vet bills and supplies, especially for the kitten overpopulation in the city.

Samuel Sandidge, the founder of the Page and Whisker hopes the sale can do big things for APARC.

“I’ve been doing book sales with APARC for a few years now and generally speaking they can bring anywhere between $2,000 and $3,000 in,” he said. “I’m hoping to at least double that because that’s what they really need is a $4,000 to $5,000 to supplement to what they have so they can provide the proper care to the animals that need it the most.”

Books will be priced from $0.25 to $2 each Friday and Saturday and on Sunday you can buy a bag for $10 and stuff it as full as you can.

APARC opened The Page & Whisker as a means of generating extra funding for the group. Cats that are up for adoption are often freely roaming the store.
