Two new cases in Medicine Hat, 141 across Alberta

Medicine Hat has two new cases for a total of 56 over the course of the pandemic. There are five active cases, 50 recovered and there has been one death.

Alberta confirmed 141 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday. The province now has 9,728 total cases — 1,193 active cases, an increase of 84, and 8,363 recovered cases, an increase of 55.

“I am concerned by the continued rise in active cases. Our health system is watching the situation closely, but I want to be clear: We all have a role to play in reducing the cases we are seeing,” said Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health.

The province announced students will return to in-school classes this school year.

“The best way to have safe and healthy schools this fall is to start the school year with a low count of cases in the population,” Hinshaw said.

There are 93 Albertans currently in hospital due to COVID-19, 18 of which are in ICU. There have been two additional deaths for a total of 172.

The province conducted 7,815 tests in the past 24 hours.

The South Zone has a total of 1,535 cases —1,391 recovered, an increase of 10, and 131 active, an increase of 12.

There are nine people in the zone in hospital, an increase of one. There are currently two people in ICU in the South Zone, and there have been 13 deaths.

Cypress County has totalled 30 cases, all recovered.

The County of Forty Mile has eight total cases, two active cases and six recovered.

The MD of Taber has eight new cases for a total of 27 — 15 active and 12 recovered.

Special Areas No. 2 has five active cases.

Numbers are unchanged in Brooks, where there have been 1,121 total cases —1,109 are recovered and three are active. Brooks has recorded nine deaths. The County of Newell is showing a total of 22 cases — two active and 20 recovered.

The County of Warner has 47 total cases. There are now five active cases and 41 recovered. There has been one death in the county.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 89 cases. Of those, 37 are listed as active and 52 recovered. Lethbridge County has 18 cases, 11 active cases and seven recovered.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day July 20, 2020.”
